Something separate from store credit. It also needs to have the ability to create/print the gift cards and not double the amount of money made on our reports. IE. someone buys a 25$ giftcard, then uses all of it, the system should only show 25$ coming in not 50$.
The workaround is to add the gift cart as customer credit, and then using the credit to make the purchase.
@Channing Guenther agreed. it would be nice to have a gift card/certificate option. I used to manage retail stores where gift cards were always a special key to sell which may have processed it differently since you're actually exchanging credit for money and not really making anything. Maybe it shouldn't be considered revenue until spent which is why issuing isn't taxed but using it is. So maybe we need a special category for gift cards and certificates that doesn't include this in the actual sales. I guess I'll be consulting the accountant about this. We've only sold a handful so far but this does bring in some good questions on proper processing.
Roger Cambell, Some of us don't create customer accounts for our customers.
When 30-40% of your customers are tourists it doesn't make sense to create customer accounts for each of them.
With that in mind it would be REALLY useful if CC could handle Gift Certificates in a way that doesn't require the customer to have a customer account with which to apply store credit to.
Ideally, it would be great if alongside Card, Cash, Check and Account there was another payment option in the POS called "Gift Certificate" which, when used, didn't record the GC payment as revenue since that revenue has already been recorded when the GC was purchased in the first place.
This is not a MUST HAVE, but customers use it a LOT. The ability to give a physical card to someone makes it a popular option for presents when they don't know what the recipient would want.
We currently use a 3rd party to print "credit card" style gift cards with a barcode/unique ID on each. I would like the system to allow us to tie this ID to the gift card account in POS so the physical format is flexible.
We're looking at Gift Certificates that are non reloadable and when they're redeemed crediting the customer's store credit for the amount. I can see where a double transaction could occur though if not processed correctly.
Good lord, yes! This is a NEED!!
