[P] Report for tax exempt sales

In order to report monthly sales taxes correctly, I need the ability to pull a report on what products were sold where sales tax was not collected.

Details:
CC currently gives us the ability to mark products as tax exempt, and also to mark an entire transaction sales tax exempt.

We use this feature mostly for events or services that we are holding that do no involve the sale of any products.  An example would be a birthday party or even a Modern event.   An instance where the entire transaction is exempt is when I sell games to tax exempt entities like schools or non-profits.

For Illinois reporting, each month I have to enter in my total sales in state and what my sales were out of state.  I can do this perfectly right now.  After that though, I have to tell them what the dollar total of the in-state sales I made were considered tax exempt.  The report I would like to see would be able to have a date range put in, and then give me the dollar total for the sales.  It would also give me the ability to see what the mandatory notes put on a transaction marked as exempt were.

Without the ability to tell which sales were exempt, I am effectively forced to pay sales tax on those products, even if I didn't collect the tax from the end user.

There's an export on the dashboard under the financial section that will give this in a .csv file.  It gives a lot of info but doesn't remove discounts from your taxable income and such. SO it will tell you you owe more sales tax than you do.  but if you are doing this another way and all you need is the non taxable total:

    In-State Taxable Sales 6481.16
    In-State Non-Taxable Sales 936.68
    Out-of-State Net Sales 910.46
    Discounts Given 479.55
    Price Adjustment 21.75

We found they don't deduct the discounts or price adjustments from the taxable total but your in state non taxable is right there.

for the out of state it is there also.

on dashboard click financial, select cash and the date range then click the export to csv. it'll give a link to an export page that will have the file within a few minutes or less on the new servers.  We obviously found this after my last post a year ago.

This is a MUST HAVE for our accounting too.  We need to know "out of state" sales which would include POS sales to OR, AK, MT, or other states that don't use sales tax (WA has agreements with these states) andwe need to know "tax exempt" sales like events, gift cards, etc.  I would like these numbers available on a daily, monthly, and annual report.

CC should look at either working with or getting ideas from Square.  Their free POS does all of this, tax included, multiple tax rates and much better reporting.  I prefer CC interface and the importing ability for inventories, etc but areas like this for taxes hurt us.  We are losing hundreds to thousands a year in overpaying taxes because of this tax reporting.
