I have many customers who are both confused and annoyed by the automatically generated email that is created when I mark an order from "payment received" to "shipped" when a customer came to pick up their order as planned, as it was an "in store pickup" order. Not only are these items not "shipped" but the customer certainly knows the whereabouts of the purchase. However for bookkeeping reasons I need to mark it as shipped when these purchases are picked up. An to add to the confusion, if I dont get to marking it as shipped right away then it looks extra weird to a customer when they get this email a day+ afterwards.
Also, if you uncheck the box in the top right Bulk Options you can set to shipped without emailing the customer. You just have to take that step instead of using the dropdown menu.
There is a processing step for the "Preparing for Pick Up" comment below. But an option for Ready for Pickup that emails clients would be very helpful. Currently at our small business we mark it as shipped without emailing customers and use a form letter to tell them their order is ready for pick up.
Depending on the volume of orders you're receiving, that could help!
Alternatively, having additional statuses would probably work best! Options like "Preparing for Pickup", "Ready for Pickup" and "Picked up" would be amazing!
